Hasan Altun, Chairman of the Araban District Chamber of Agriculture, issued warnings about post-harvest stubble fires in the grain fields in the Araban Plain.

Altun’s Statements:

  • Burning stubble destroys beneficial creatures and organic matter in the soil,
  • It reduces the fertility of the soil and negatively affects the quality of agricultural products,
  • Increases water and wind erosion and reduces soil resistance,
  • It was stated that it disrupts the natural balance and causes harmful insects and diseases to multiply.

Altun said that mixing the stubble into the soil after the grain harvest will provide many benefits to the soil and prevent the damage caused by burning the stubble. He stated that by mixing the stubble into the soil, the organic matter content will increase, the nutrients useful to the plant will increase and the soil resistance against erosion will increase.
