Statement of Galatasaray Sports Club on the Incidents that Happened in the Göztepe – Fenerbahçe Match
We wish to get well soon to both our clubs and the entire sports community due to the sad events that occurred in the Göztepe – Fenerbahçe match played yesterday. We would like to point out that such incidents damage the reputation of Turkish football and threaten social peace.
This incident is considered as part of a scenario that will drag Turkish football, which is followed passionately by millions of football fans, into chaos. As Galatasaray Sports Club, the warnings we have recently made are an important step to prevent this and similar incidents.
It is not a coincidence that those who threw Turkish referees in front of their fans and called for ‘expose them on sight’ last season, those who attempted provocation in Trabzonspor’s stadium, and those who entered our empty stadium after our match illegally, as if They were raiding, and severely beat our Stadium Operations Director, are connected to the events that took place yesterday. .
If a timely and effective response had been given by the stakeholders of Turkish football to such incidents at that time, perhaps these sad events would not have occurred. Those responsible for this tense football climate, including the punching of a FIFA licensed referee on the field last season, and anyone who encourages or supports violence, especially on social media, should be immediately blocked.
As Galatasaray Sports Club, we would like to emphasize once again that we are against all forms of violence on the fields. We announce to the Turkish sports public that we will make the necessary efforts to put into effect all deterrent measures, especially the law, without losing time in order to remove all individuals involved in violence from Turkish football.
