According to a statement made by the Ecuadorian Presidency’s press unit, a state of emergency was declared in the country in order to prevent violent incidents caused by organized crime groups.
A 60-Day State of Emergency Will Be Implemented in the Country
According to reports in the national press, a state of emergency was declared for 60 days in the cities of Guayas, Los Rios, Manabi, Orellana, Santa Elena and El Oro within the scope of the state of emergency decision.
Many People Lost Their Lives
The state of emergency declared twice by Noboa on January 7 and April 20 was halted by the Constitutional Court. Ecuador has been struggling with a security crisis for a long time. Since the beginning of the year, many people, including mayors and security forces, have lost their lives as a result of gang attacks. The escape of Jose Adolfo Macias Villamar, leader of the gang “Los Choneros”, from prison in the city of Guayaquil on January 7 fueled the violence.
