Tensions Escalate Between Erdoğan and Katz
A virtual clash broke out on social media between Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, whom President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described as a “keyboard clown,” and the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Youth Branch. Katz used scandalous statements against Erdoğan in a post on his social media account, using the access ban on Instagram as an excuse. He did not forget to include an illustration of Erdoğan posing with a phone in his post.
Slander and Attacks Against Erdoğan
At the end of his message, Katz targeted CHP Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and the CHP Youth Branch by tagging them. In response to Katz, the CHP Youth Branch attacked President Erdoğan with ugly statements reminiscent of Zionist murderers. The post said, “Do you think yourselves are smart? We know that you are trying to strengthen your ally Erdoğan by tagging us. You are the murderers of innocent people. Keep your ugly words away from us.”
Harsh Reactions to Katz from Turkey
On the other hand, Turkey has heavily criticized Israel Katz, who was described as a “keyboard clown.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a written statement on the matter. The statement said, “The person in question has long since lost his qualifications as someone to be addressed. Turkey will continue to provide the strongest support to the Palestinians today, as it did yesterday.”
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik also made harsh statements about Katz in a post he shared on social media. Çelik said, “Israeli Foreign Minister Katz is a photocopy of Hitler’s Foreign Minister Ribbentrop. Whatever the Nazis said back then, that’s what Katz said.”
