The trial regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları General Chairman Sinan Ateş began in Ankara Çukurambar on December 30, 2022. The first hearing of the trial, in which 22 detained defendants will be tried, was held in Sincan Prison.

Life Sentence Requested for 3 Defenders
The indictment seeks an aggravated life sentence for “premeditated murder” for the hitman Eray Özyağcı and Vedat Balkaya and Suat Kurt, who brought him to the scene and kidnapped him. There are also different charges and sentencing requests for the other defendants.

The Chairman of the Victory Party, Ümit Özdağ, stated that the case showed the importance of the rule of law and said, “Our hope is that the court process will proceed within the framework of certain basic principles and that the real criminals will be brought to justice.”
Ayşe Ateş: Our Expectation is a New Indictment to be Written
Sinan Ateş’s wife Ayşe Ateş said regarding the hearing, “There is missing evidence. The statements of some friends were not included. We want the gaps in the indictment to be filled and the trial to begin.”

Dogukan Cep Was Thrown Out of the Hall
Before the hearing, one of the defendants, Doğukan Çep, was removed from the courtroom by law enforcement personnel due to his comments towards those sitting on the complainants’ benches. The presiding judge issued warnings to ensure discipline in the courtroom.
Rejection of MHP’s Request
MHP’s request to join the case was rejected. The court did not accept MHP’s request on the grounds that ‘they were not harmed by the crime’.
