The sheep shearing season has begun in the Tercan district of Erzincan, on the plateaus at an altitude of 3,370 meters. Sheep shearing both provides relief for the animals and creates a source of income for the producers.

Producers have begun shearing their sheep to clean and cool them and to obtain wool. Approximately 500 sheep are sheared daily on the Munzur Mountain plateaus.

A producer named Ahmet Demir stated that shearing is done out in the plateaus and said, “Although this work is difficult for the producers, the sheep relax and cool down after shearing. We take the sheep to places with plenty of water to wash them.”

Another farmer said, “We are shearing our sheep because the July temperatures are increasing. In this way, the animals cool down and the sheared sheep develop faster. However, the demand for wool obtained has decreased. We still continue to use it for our own needs.”
