Savvas Gerapetritis made important statements about Turkish-Greek relations and developments in the Middle East in an interview with SKAI television. Gerapetritis stated that keeping communication channels open with Turkey plays a critical role in preventing tensions, and said, “We must make efforts to protect our sovereign rights and solve problems through dialogue.”

Gerapetritis also touched on the disinformation regarding the sea surveys conducted for the electricity connection cable between Crete and Southern Cyprus. Emphasizing that the research vessel remained in the region longer than planned but that there was no risk of conflict with Turkey, Gerapetritis stated that the studies were conducted without obtaining permission from Turkey. “Long-term peace will be possible with the correct determination of the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf,” said Gerapetritis, adding that dialogue channels with Turkey are always open and are used to reduce tension.

Gerapetritis, who also warned about developments in the Middle East, drew attention to the fact that events in the region could create a domino effect. Gerapetritis, who predicted that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and other Middle Eastern regions could worsen and that migration waves could increase, emphasized that Greece was adopting an approach based on international law. “We are working to ensure that our country emerges from this crisis with the least damage. We are in the most difficult period since World War II,” said Gerapetritis, who also shared his concerns about the future.
