Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum met with the city protocol and representatives of non-governmental organizations at the Şanlıurfa Governorship Meeting Hall.

Minister Kurum, who wished citizens a speedy recovery due to the flood disaster in Giresun at the Provincial Coordination Meeting, stated that he took office 18 days ago and that they hit the road with the passion to serve the disaster victims.

Minister Kurum, who stated that they experienced sadness and happiness at the same time while doing field work in 11 provinces affected by the earthquake, said, “Our pain is as fresh as in the first hours, but our struggle is as strong as in the first hours. We were shoulder to shoulder yesterday, we are shoulder to shoulder today, we are one heart with our nation.”

“A good man keeps his word”

Minister Kurum noted that by the end of 2025, they will ensure that all earthquake victims live happily and peacefully in their own homes, side by side with their neighbors, and said:

  • There is a beautiful saying in Urfa. They say, ‘A good man keeps his word.’ We are trying to be a son of Urfa who keeps his word.
  • We build our nests everywhere from Karaköprü to Eyyübiye, from Viranşehir to Siverek, Hilvan, Halfeti, Birecik and Ceylanpinar.

‘Balıklıgöl will be renewed’

At the end of the meeting, Minister Kurum explained the works regarding Balıklıgöl, the symbol of Şanlıurfa, and stated that it will be renewed with the support of the ministry and by taking the opinions of scientists, and said, “A comprehensive restoration work will “be done there Balıklıgöl campus will gain a new appearance with the infrastructure and restoration works.”
