Who is Şahin Şahin?
Şahin Şahin, who graduated from Samsun Imam Hatip High School and then from Istanbul University Faculty of Theology, completed his master’s degree at Necmettin Erbakan University Social Sciences University Turkish Music State Conservatory with his interest in music. After working as an imam in mosques in various cities of Turkey for 22 years, he has been working as an imam in the American Religious Affairs Center in Maryland for the last 6 months.
Sahin, who accompanies the instruments played by street musicians in important parts of New York by singing hymns, attracts the attention of the people around him and contributes to their interest in Islam.
Şahin stated that music has an important place in his life and emphasized the meaning of music in reciting the Quran, the call to prayer and the call to prayer beautifully. Şahin, who thinks that an educated voice affects people more, states that music helps to establish an emotional bond between people.
The video of Şahin accompanying a street musician he came across in New York and reciting a hymn in the Nihavent makam quickly went viral and received great acclaim. Şahin stated that such moments are not planned and develop spontaneously, and shared that he observed that when people hear his voice, they become curious and research, and their interest in the beauty of religion increases.
