Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s political will to contribute to international peace at the press conference he held after the 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit.
President Erdogan’s Mediation Appreciated
Putin expressed his appreciation for Turkey’s mediation efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, saying, “The agreements made in Istanbul were approved by Ukraine. These agreements are still on the table and can be the basis for negotiations.”
The Importance of Türkiye-Russia Relations
The Russian President stated that there were attempts to damage relations between Turkey and Russia, and said, “President Erdoğan’s political activities will contribute to international peace and help our relations.” He emphasized that both sides wanted to develop their relations.
Putin’s Assessment of Relations with the US
Putin stated that they were ready to discuss strategic stability issues with the US, and said, “We need to wait for the election results in the US. It is important to see the approach of the future administration.” He also added that they offered suggestions on international security issues.

Making statements about the conflicts in Ukraine, Putin stated that a ceasefire could not be declared through mediators and said, “I find Trump’s statements that he could stop the conflict in Ukraine positively.” Putin stated that it was difficult to end the conflict between mediators.
