President Biden faced challenges in Georgia even before a poor debate performance led to the end of his re-election bid. His victory in the state four years ago marked a significant win for Democrats, but support had waned this time around.

However, Vice President Kamala Harris’s upcoming campaign visit to Atlanta signifies a resurgence of Democratic enthusiasm in Georgia. Key parts of the party’s base, such as Black voters and young people, are re-engaged and optimistic about Ms. Harris’s chances.

State Senator Nabilah Islam from Gwinnett County, Georgia, noted the increased enthusiasm among voters: “People have been reaching out to me to see how they can help me and the vice president win this November. Those conversations weren’t happening before and now they are.”

Supporters of Ms. Harris in Georgia point to various indicators of a shifting race, including record volunteer sign-ups and high attendance at virtual meetings with Black pastors and organizers. Ms. Harris has the potential to energize Black voters, a crucial Democratic demographic in Georgia.

Notably, thousands of attendees are expected at Ms. Harris’s rally, indicating a significant level of interest compared to President Biden’s smaller events. This surge in support could position her on par with former President Trump, who regularly draws large crowds at his rallies.
