Historical Fountain Comes to Life Again in Abdi Village

Abdi Köyünde Tarihi Çeşme Yeniden Hayat Buldu

The 43-year-old headman of Abdi village in the district Tarik Gul As a result of the examinations he carried out with the villagers, he unearthed the historical fountain that was used a century ago but had become inactive and buried underground over time. Gül stated that a study was started in the village to make the fountain, which was covered with soil approximately 30 years ago, ready for use again, and drew attention to the importance of water resources.

Muhtar Gül explained the reasons for starting this project as follows: “Actually, our basic need is that the water resources are currently drying up. The fact that there is no water coming to our tank from approximately 8-10 kilometers away is a big problem for our village. We do not have water coming from any of our water resources at the moment. The drought situation is known, so we preferred to identify our historical fountains that our ancestors and grandfathers used and offer them to the use of the citizens. “We implemented this project with the support of my members and our villagers.”

Gül stated that the area where the fountain is located has been closed for about 25-30 years and that the history of the fountain is over a century. “My grandfather was born in 1930; It is a place where even my grandfather did not know when the fountain was built. However, it was buried under the ground due to landslides. “We heard that the water of this spring is not cut off even in the driest times and for this reason we decided to open the fountain,” he said.

Underlining that they will put the fountain into operation by protecting their history, Gül explained their plans as follows: “We plan to make the side walls and open the other closed section of the fountain and make it ready for use. After we opened this section, the fountain started filling even before we finished our work. “The water that comes in this drought is a great blessing for us.”

Gül, who emphasized that the fountain was built with stone and did not lose its form over the years, also gave information about the restoration process: “The stones have not deteriorated themselves. We have minor restoration works. “We will bring it back to how it was built on the first day, without damaging its historical structure, and present it to the use of our citizens.”
