Protest Action in Boston and the Mystery Behind the Event
Authorities stated that the investigation was continuing and chose not to share information about the identity of the person who set himself on fire. However, social media users are commenting that there is a cover-up effort behind this incident. On September 11, when the incident occurred, a person who introduced himself as “Matt Nelson” made a statement in a video that was first shared on YouTube and spread especially by pro-Palestinian accounts.
“My name is Matt Nelson and I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest. We are all guilty of the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” he said on video. Nelson, who started as follows, then stated the following:
- “We call ourselves the best nation in history, but we spend all the money on guns and wars that we would spend on educating children, helping the homeless, protecting the environment, and ensuring equal rights for all Americans.”
- “We are slaves to capitalism and the military-industrial complex. Most of us are too apathetic to care.”
- “The protest I am about to embark on is to highlight the need for our government to stop providing Israel with the money and weapons it uses to imprison and kill innocent Palestinians, as well as to pressure Israel to end the genocide in Gaza.”
In the 58-second video, Nelson urges everyone to call and pressure members of Congress in their districts, saying, “Democracy should serve the people’s demand, not the interests of the rich. Take back your power. Freedom for Palestine.” he said
Later, security camera footage of the moment when a person set himself on fire was shared on some local media channels. However, no information was provided about the identity of this person and the motivation behind his action. In response to AA’s persistent questions, the Boston Police Department stated that the investigation is continuing and that they will not share any other information for now.
