Prof. Dr. İnce, who is the Head of ITU Microbial Ecology Group, has been appointed as the scientific director and research leader of the TerrArctic Mega Grant Project carried out by Tyumen State University. Within the scope of the project, a team of 60 people was established for the restoration of damaged lands in the Arctic Region. Ince and the Russian team will conduct field research to improve the ecosystem in the region and ensure sustainable land use.
İnce stated that the effects of climate change are increasing, emphasizing that the world’s average temperature is rising and the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing. He stated that the Arctic Region is significantly affected by these changes and that this situation poses a risk in terms of food, water security and land use.
Ince, who stated that the deterioration of soil quality threatens living life, stated that the project aims to rehabilitate degraded areas and develop sustainable land use plans. In this direction, the following laboratory studies, pilot region studies will be carried out and studies will be carried out to increase the quality of the soil.
Prof. Dr. İnce stated that he would invite Turkish scientists within the scope of the project and conveyed that ITU was included in the project with the support of ITU Rector İsmail Koyuncu.
İnce emphasized that the work to be carried out in the project will ensure that the Arctic Region and the world are left to future generations in a safer way and will contribute to achieving a healthier world, and stated that the project has global importance.
