Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Op. Dr. Berrak Beyoğlu Oruç from Medical Park Göztepe Hospital Complex gave important information about the precautions that pregnant women should take against the sun in the summer months.

Risks of Sun Exposure

Effects of Dehydration

Stressing that a pregnant woman’s body can be more affected by fluid loss, Op. Dr. Fasting stated that fluid loss can lead to serious problems such as groin pain, uterine contractions and the threat of premature birth.

Precautions to be taken against the sun

  • To protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun, you should avoid going out between 11:00 and 16:00, or go out to a minimum extent.
  • Time should be spent in the shade, standing for long periods of time should be avoided, and long walks in the open air should be avoided.
  • 2-3 liters of water should be consumed daily and foods that may increase fluid loss through urine should be avoided.

Sunscreen Usage

Kiss. ​​Dr. Fasting stated that sunscreen should definitely be applied before going out in the sun and should be renewed regularly during the day. He emphasized that the highest factor sunscreens should be preferred.

Signs of Dehydration

Kiss. ​​Dr. Fasting stated that the most obvious sign of fluid loss in the body is darkening of the urine color, and stated that fluid intake should be increased in this case. He also added that attention should be paid to pure consumption.
