In Iraq, the al-Mada newspaper covered the developments that have stirred up the political arena in its latest headline. It was claimed that an election alliance agreement was made after the meeting between former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the leader of the Badr Shiite Organization, Hadi Amiri. It is expected that the leader of the Sadrist Movement, Sadr, will also participate in this agreement.

While the alliance efforts between Maliki, Amiri and Sadr are progressing rapidly, Maliki’s demand for early elections is drawing attention. Maliki’s target is the current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. Maliki’s demand for early elections could revive political conflicts.

Maliki’s coalition member Abdelrahman Jazayeri stressed that they are determined to demand early elections. However, the leader of the Wisdom Current in the Coordination Framework, Ammar al-Hakim, opposed early elections and stated that the current political situation did not require it.

In addition to these developments, the claims of rapprochement between Maliki and Sadr are also drawing attention. However, no statement has yet been made by the Sadr front. The next general elections in Iraq are scheduled for November 2025.
