The Panama-flagged cargo ship that ran aground in the Mudanya district of Bursa was rescued in a successful operation by the tugboat of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM). The Rescue-2 tugboat belonging to KEGM was directed to the region from Istanbul to rescue the cargo ship named “VOLGO-BALT 213” that ran a ground 6-7 meters from the shore in the Tirilye Neighborhood.

As a result of the examinations, the cargo ship’s condition was determined and it was pulled out to sea by the Rescue-2 tugboat with ropes. It was learned that the damage to the ship’s bottom was determined by divers and she would be taken to Gemlik Port.

In addition to the marine police and Coast Guard teams participated with the Provincial Police Department, Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command personnel also participated in the rescue operation.

It was determined that the cargo ship, which set off from Istanbul to carry 2,200 tons of compressed animal feed from Russia to the Gemlik Port, ran aground 6-7 meters from the shore in the Ayani Church area of ​​the Tirilye Neighborhood on Sunday , July 14, as a result of the third captain falling asleep.

Following the incident, KEGM, marine police, coast guard and Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams were dispatched to the region. The operation was concluded successfully and the cargo ship was rescued safely.
