Palestine Requests Extraordinary Meeting of the Arab League

Filistin'in Arap Birliği'ne Olağanüstü Toplantı Talebi

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhenned Akluk, told the official Palestinian news agency WAFA that the Ramallah administration had requested the Arab League to hold an extraordinary meeting this week.

Akluk stated that they wanted to address the issues of “the ongoing crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the fight against the expansion of the occupation in the West Bank.” The Palestinian representative noted that the call for the extraordinary meeting came after a series of decisions recently approved by the Tel Aviv government aimed at obstructing concrete steps on the ground towards the independence of the Palestinian state and including the Palestinian territories in the West Bank in the occupation, as well as “piracy” activities aimed at tax funds collected on behalf of the Palestinian government.

On June 28, the Israeli Security Cabinet approved the legalization of five illegal settlements in the West Bank’s “Area B” upon the request of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Within the framework of the “Second Oslo Accords” signed between Palestine and Israel in 1995, the occupied West Bank was divided into Areas A, B and C.

The administrative and security management of “Area A”, covering 18 percent of the West Bank, was transferred to Palestine, the administrative management of “Area B”, covering 21 percent, was transferred to Palestine and its security to Israel, while the administration and security of “Area C”, covering 61 percent, was left to Israel.
