North Korean Hackers Target Defense and Engineering Firms

The North Korean-backed hackers, known as “Anadriel” or “APT45,” are targeting the computer systems of defense and engineering firms that manufacture tanks, submarines, fighter jets, missiles and radar systems. They are also reportedly targeting various industrial sectors in Japan and India.

In a statement made by the US Department of Justice, it was stated that North Korean member of Anadriel, Rim Jong-hyok, provided hacking activities to state institutions around the world with the ransom money he obtained by hacking the software of US-based hospitals . An indictment was prepared in the US against Rim Jong-hyok.

The US State Department has offered a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the location or identity of Anadriel member Rim. North Korean hackers have also been reportedly involved in hacking operations at US Air Force bases, NASA and other organizations in various countries.
