The curtain of secrecy in the Pyramid of Sahura, one of the greatest mysteries of antiquity, has finally been lifted. The magnificent architecture of the Egyptian pyramids and the construction techniques of thousands of years ago still amaze researchers today. How these fascinating structures were built and what they contain have been a subject of curiosity for centuries.
The Pyramid of Sahura, built approximately 4,500 years ago, is hosting new discoveries as it is being examined by a team from the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg. During the work carried out within the scope of the pyramid’s protection and restoration, it was revealed that the pyramid’s infrastructure was examined in detail with 3D laser scanning.
During the restoration work, the team discovered previously unknown rooms in the pyramid. It is thought that these rooms were used as storage areas, although they did not have a primary function. In addition, a secret passage was found leading to eight previously undiscovered storage rooms.
“This project is an important step in understanding the history and significance of the Sahura pyramid,” said the team led by Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, regarding their discoveries.
