The Misrata Civil Registry announced that 17 babies born in the city today were given the name “Ishmael” in memory of Hamas leader Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Iran.
Haniyeh was attacked while in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of new President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the attack took place where Haniyeh was staying.
While Iran and the Hamas Movement claimed responsibility for the assassination on the part of occupying Israel, Israeli officials refrained from making any statement on the matter.
Haniyeh was elected as the Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau by the Hamas Shura Council on May 6, 2017, replacing Khaled Meshaal.
