Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar Completed His Visit to Turkmenistan
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar successfully completed his 2-day visit to Turkmenistan. As part of his Ashgabat program, he held meetings with the President of Turkmengeology Gurbangeldi Garlyev, the Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Annageldi Saparov and the President of the Turkmen gas company Turkmengaz Maksat Babayev.
Minister Bayraktar held separate important meetings with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan responsible for Oil and Natural Gas Batır Amanov and President of Turkmen Petroleum Guvanç Agacanov. In his assessment following the visit, he emphasized that the energy cooperation between the two countries has great potential, especially in the field of natural gas.
Cooperation on Natural Gas
Minister Bayraktar stated that they were working on a project to transport Turkmen gas to Turkey and Europe, and that a pipeline passing through the Caspian Sea was the most ideal and long-term solution. He expressed that they were determined for Turkey to have access to this natural gas and to transport it to Europe.
Mines and Potential in the Electric Field
Minister Bayraktar stated that Turkmenistan has serious potential in the field of mines and electricity and that they are evaluating cooperation opportunities in these areas. He stated that efforts to transfer Turkmenistan’s potential in mines and electricity production capabilities to Turkey are ongoing.
Joint Production and Storage Studies
Minister Bayraktar stated that they discussed the issues of joint production and storage in Turkmenistan’s natural gas fields and that they evaluated the opportunities for sharing Turkey’s experiences and cooperation in these matters.
Minister Bayraktar stated that they will cooperate with Turkish companies on smart meters and network systems in the distribution of natural gas, and that they will support Turkmenistan’s investment ideas on natural gas storage.
Future Goals
Minister Bayraktar stated that Turkey aims to increase its natural gas volume in the coming years and reach a gas volume of 300 billion cubic meters. He stated that they plan to quickly start natural gas trade with barter and swap methods along with pipeline projects.
Important Steps and Signatures
Recalling that decisions were made to increase natural gas and oil cooperation between Turkey and Turkmenistan with the signatures made at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held on March 1, Minister Bayraktar stated that these steps made a significant contribution to the strengthening of cooperation in the field of energy .
