Important Statements from Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made a written statement regarding the Draft Regulation on Special Hygiene Rules for Animal Foods prepared by the General Directorate of Food and Control. Yumaklı stated that the draft was presented to the public for their opinion and that many important practices would be implemented with this new regulation.
Yumaklı emphasized that the opinions received from the public and sector representatives will be meticulously evaluated and the final form of the regulation will be determined in light of this feedback, and continued as follows:
“We have completed our work that we started to make some updates to the Regulation on Special Hygiene Rules for Animal Foods, which came into force in 2011. We are implementing new regulations in many areas from the production of food products to the transportation stage. Our main goal here is to ensure that our consumers have access to safe and healthy food. In this context, we are implementing one of the most important changes regarding slaughterhouses. . Although penal actions have been taken for such situations, our main goal is to completely eliminate such negativities.”
Yumaklı pointed out that stricter controls and practices will be put into effect in this regard. “With the new regulation, we are making it mandatory to install camera systems at certain points in slaughterhouses. We also foresee the creation of the necessary infrastructure so that slaughtered animals can be digitally monitored when necessary. We will continue our work to ensure food safety without slowing down.”
