Efforts to remove the suspicious object, which is considered to be a mine, off the coast of Karadeniz Ereğli district started in the morning. Yesterday evening, upon the instructions of the District Governorship and the Coast Guard Command, extensive security measures were taken in the region to destroy the suspicious object detected 60 meters off the seashore in Göktepe, at a depth of 5 meters.
The teams reported that for the safety of citizens, the Municipality Beach, Mervealtı Beach, recreation area, Aqua Park and its surroundings were closed for use as of 20.00 in the evening until further notice. Swimming in the sea is dangerous and prohibited. Warning announcements were made to citizens from team vehicles. Citizens in the area were asked to take into account the warnings of the security teams and stay away from the area.
Karadeniz Ereğli District Police Department provided controlled transportation on the highway from the Aqua Park entrance to the end of Mervealtı Beach. The suspicious object, which is considered to be a mine, is planned to be taken ashore and destroyed. Following the teams’ watch that continued throughout the night, work began in the morning hours.
The Coast Guard boat approached the area and the teams are continuing their work.
