Hospital Spokesperson: Medical Supply Shortage in Gaza Brings Surgeries to a Halt

Hastane Sözcüsü: Gazze'deki Tıbbi Malzeme Sıkıntısı Ameliyatları Durma Noktasına Getiriyor

Hospital spokesman Khalil al-Dakran said that the serious shortage of medical supplies, medicine and fuel in hospitals in Gaza has brought surgeries to a standstill. Dakran stressed that this situation is equivalent to a “death sentence” as the number of injured and sick people in the hospital increases.

Dakran stated that if surgeries are stopped, the lives of infected people will be at risk, and noted that the lack of sufficient operating rooms, anesthesia materials and necessary medical instruments in the hospital are major problems. He said that there are currently many wounded people in the hospital who need surgery.

“We cannot provide adequate healthcare to patients due to a lack of beds. The hospital reception and emergency room are full of injured people. The number of patients and injured people is far above the hospital’s capacity,” Dakran said, adding that due to power cuts, generators are at risk of being out of service due to fuel shortages.

Stressing that generators must be constantly running for patients in the hospital’s intensive care unit, Dakran called for urgent support from the international community. He noted that many people have lost their lives and been injured due to attacks in Gaza in the last 10 months.

Dakran called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently to “provide hospitals with sufficient fuel and medical supplies, reactivate out-of-service hospitals, and reduce the pressure on health workers.”
