As a result of the brutal attack carried out by PKK terrorists in the village of Başbağlar in the Kemaliye district of Erzincan on July 5, 1993, 33 civilians were brutally massacred. This horrific event remains in our memories as one of the bloodiest and most painful civilian massacres in the history of the Republic of Turkey.
During the terrorist attack, 33 innocent people gathered in the village of Başbağlar were brutally killed by being shot and then set on fire in the village square. Although 31 years have passed since this painful event, their relatives, who still feel the pain of their loved ones who lost them in the massacre, believe that justice will definitely be served one day.
One of the survivors of this horrific incident in Başbağlar village, the former village headman Ali Akarpınar, stated that what happened was a genocide and said, “The terrorists who burned to death 5 of our villagers in their houses, as well as 28 innocent people in the massacre in Başbağlar, wrote the name of an inhumane savagery on the village of Başbağlar.”
