The Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kula Mayor of Manisa, Hikmet Dönmez, was arrested by the court on the charge of “inciting looting” for allegedly beating two people in his office and sent to prison. On the other hand, Mayor Dönmez’s bodyguard and driver, who were detained as part of the investigation, were also arrested on the charge of “looting”.
According to the information received, CHP Kula Mayor Hikmet Dönmez summoned MU and HD, the officials of a private company that had made an agreement with the municipality, to the municipality. Mayor Dönmez wanted to terminate his contract with the company, claiming that MU and HD were collecting money from shopkeepers using the name of Kula Municipality and defrauding the shopkeepers. Following the argument that started, company officials MU and HD were beaten and taken out of the municipality by Mayor Dönmez’s driver MOA and his bodyguard RG.
MU and HD, who were beaten, applied to the police, claiming that they were beaten in Mayor Dönmez’s office. Mayor Dönmez, driver MOA and bodyguard RG were detained upon the complaint. After giving their statements at the Kula District Police Department, MOA and RG were referred to court and arrested for “the crime of looting” and sent to prison.
Details of the incident
- It was learned that President Dönmez first obtained a medical report from Kula State Hospital, claiming that he had a private meeting with the company officials MU and HD, whose contract was to be terminated, and that his bodyguards RG and MOA intervened in the incident when the company officials attacked him, and then went to the police station to file a complaint.
- After his arrest, President Dönmez addressed the crowd waiting for him outside the court, saying, “I did nothing to harm Kula.”
