In the general elections held in the United Kingdom, which consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Labour Party put 412 MPs into the 650-seat parliament with approximately 34 percent of the vote, ending the 14-year rule of the Conservative Party.

The election results gave the Labour Party a majority to form a government on its own, while the Conservative Party suffered a major defeat with 23.7 percent of the vote and 120 seats.
