Work continues to reopen the Kütahya-Seyitömer highway, which remained under the lake waters due to the landslide that occurred on May 21 in the dumping site of a lignite enterprise operated by a private company near the Seyitömer town, 33 kilometers from the city center.
Work Planned to Reopen the Road
At the meeting attended by Kütahya Governor Musa Işın, AK Party Kütahya deputies İsmail Çağlar Bayırcı and Mehmet Demir, Highways 14th Regional Director Umut Akyazı and representatives of relevant institutions, it was planned to drain the overflowing water and open the road to traffic by July 19.
Statement from the Mayor
Seyitömer Mayor Mahmut Yol told reporters that they were working as a municipality to drain the lake water on the road, but that these efforts were insufficient. The road, which stated that they had reduced the water level somewhat, said, “There have been many accidents on the road used as an alternative. We expect the relevant institutions to work to open the road to traffic as soon as possible.”
