Kastamonu University Archaeology Department Inebolu Surface Research

The “İnebolu, Bozkurt, Abana (1st Millennium BC – 10th Century AD) Surface Research” project, led by Dr. Hatice Asena Kızılarslanoğlu, faculty member of the Archaeology Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kastamonu University, continues with its third season. The work, which started in November 2022 within the scope of the project, is being carried out with the permission of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Project Details

  • The first three seasons were held in Inebolu.
  • The research team keeps records of historical and archaeological assets in the region.
  • During the research, remains dating back 2,300 years were found.
  • Necropolis and historical structures were discovered in Inebolu.
  • At the end of the project, the aim is to publish the findings in a book.

Purpose of the Studies

Çalışmaların Amacı

Project leader Dr. Kızılarslanoğlu stated that the study aims to shed light on the historical process of İnebolu and Kastamonu. The research aims to reveal the cultural and archaeological riches of the region and contribute to tourism.

Findings Obtained

In the studies carried out in Inebolu, ceramic remains dating back 2,300 years were found. In addition, necropolis and historical structures were also identified. Work is being carried out in cooperation with the relevant institutions to preserve and document these findings.
