Kalyon Energy’s Renewable Energy Projects and Successes

Kalyon Enerji'nin Yenilenebilir Enerji Projeleri ve Başarıları

While Kalyon Energy provides an annual foreign exchange substitution of 300 million dollars, it aims to increase the annual total foreign exchange substitution to 450 million dollars with the completion of the ongoing new Solar Power Plant (SPP) and Wind Power Plant (RES) projects this year. Making significant contributions to Turkey’s energy independence with its investments and projects in the field of renewable energy, Kalyon Energy continues its remarkable successes in the international arena.

For the Kalyon Karapınar Solar Power Plant, which is the largest solar power plant in Europe that it has previously completed, it has provided financing of 291 million dollars under the guarantee of UKEF (United Kingdom Export Credit Agency). This is financing the highest amount of credit provided by UKEF for such a project. Kalyon Energy has also signed a new credit agreement of 249 million euros with Standard Chartered Bank under the guarantee of UKEF and KUKE (Development and Investment Credit Agency) to realize the second largest solar power plant in Turkey. The credit provided for this project, which will have a total electricity production capacity of 390 MWp in Niğde, Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, has become a concrete indicator of the trust that international financial institutions have in Turkey and Kalyon Holding.

Thus, with this loan, Kalyon Energy has ensured the entry of foreign resources to our country in the amount of 565 million dollars. When the solar power plant project to be established on a 600-hectare area in Niğde, Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa is completed, it will produce renewable electricity in an amount that can meet the energy needs of a city with a population of 600 thousand in Turkey. This project will contribute to the net zero carbon emission targets determined for 2053 by increasing Turkey’s access to renewable energy resources. It will also ensure that the share of renewable energy in the total installed electrical energy capacity in Turkey reaches 54 percent.

Kalyon Energy’s International Successes

Kalyon Energy Board Chairman Lütfi Elvan reminding Kalyon Energy’s previous international successes and said, “We have received many prestigious awards by bringing Europe’s largest solar power plant to Turkey with Kalyon Karapınar Solar Power Plant. Kalyon Energy was deemed worthy of the 2022 Adam Smith ‘Best’ Financing Solution’ award with the success shown in the financing solution of the Karapınar Solar Power Plant project. What makes the award even more important is that it is the first time a project from Turkey has been nominated for this award. has achieved great success by winning a total of 8 different awards from international organizations such as IJGlobal, GTR, IFLR, PFI, Proximo and EMEA. Now, we are proud to add another one to our successes with the loan we have obtained for this new. project with a capacity of 390 MW spread over 7 fields in 3 different provinces of Turkey.”

Green Loan Agreement

Lütfi Elvan also stated that the 12-year term 249 million Euro Green Credit agreement with UKEF, KUKE and Standard Chartered Bank is the first of its kind and was only possible because Kalyon has an integrated solar panel production factory that can produce over 90% domestically. . “We are proud to have brought such an external resource to our country, as the ‘Green Credit’ provided is given to projects that both reduce Turkey’s carbon emissions, reach our country’s Zero Carbon target and directly contribute to global Zero Carbon targets. This credit “It is also not only in commercial terms, but also an appreciation of our compliance with environmental and social development and international sustainability criteria,” he said.
