Josep Borrell, who attended the NATO Leaders Summit, made important statements at the meeting held in Washington. Borrell stated that the situation in Gaza and the West Bank has worsened more than ever in the last 9 months, and emphasized that the humanitarian crisis has reached an “unbearable level.”
Borrell said that the Israeli government had usurped land in the West Bank and acted contrary to international law, and that this situation should be condemned. He also recalled that the Netanyahu government had seized the revenues of the Palestinian Authority, and reiterated his call for a ceasefire, the release of the hostages and a two-state solution.
Borrell also touched on Ukraine-Russia relations, stating that “it is necessary to ensure that Ukraine prevails against Russia” and that Ukraine should be supported to protect its sovereignty and ensure the security of the free world.
Drawing attention to developments in the Indo-Pacific region, Borrell stated that China supports Russia and that behaviors contrary to maritime law in the region threaten regional stability. Therefore, Borrell emphasized that cooperation and developments in the Indo-Pacific region should also be taken seriously and drew attention to the complex dynamics in international relations.
