According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.64% on a monthly basis in June. On an annual basis, inflation rose to 71.60%. This figure decreased for the first time in 8 months. Annual inflation, which peaked at 75.45% in May, decreased by approximately 4 points in June. In addition, when examined on a monthly basis, the slowest inflation increase occurred in June. Core inflation also decreased, reaching 71.41%.
Decline in Producer Inflation
In June, the Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 1.38% on a monthly basis. Annual producer inflation was 50.09%. There was a 7.59% decrease in annual producer inflation compared to the previous month.
The Highest Increase in Housing and Education Groups
The highest monthly increase in June was seen in the housing group with 3.79%. The housing group was followed by education with 3.47% and restaurants and hotels with 3.09%. The highest annual increase was in the education group with 107.11%, followed by housing with 94.72% and restaurants and hotels with 90.67%.
Price Hike Champions and Price Drops
The biggest price increase in June was experienced in intercity passenger transport by road, with 12.71%. The biggest price decrease was experienced in potatoes and some tubers, with 8.03%. Other products with price increases included water (mains water), fresh fruit, hotels, guesthouses, urban passenger transport by rail, and bread.
