Following the operation conducted in 6 provinces centered in Istanbul, the investigation in which Dilan Polat and her husband Engin Polat were also arrested was completed and an indictment was prepared.
The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding 16 suspects including Dilan Polat, her husband Engin Polat, and her siblings Can and Sıla Doğu has been completed. An indictment was prepared for the suspects, requesting a prison sentence of 13 to 27 years for the crimes of “laundering assets originating from crime within the organization structure”, “establishing and being a member of a criminal organization” and “Illegal Betting”.
The indictment, approved by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, was sent to the Anatolian 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.
What Happened?
In operations conducted in 6 provinces centered in Istanbul on November 1, 2023 and onwards, 24 suspects, including Dilan Polat and her husband Engin Polat, were detained.
Within the scope of the investigation, a preliminary investigation report was prepared by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board regarding the suspects, including the Polat couple, whose digital materials and ledgers were seized during searches conducted at their companies before, and the report determined that 200 million liras had entered the companies belonging to family members from 3 companies in liquidation, through the method of issuing fake invoices in return for the so-called trade.
After it was determined that the money was transferred between companies belonging to family members and that in the last stage, it was collected in a company called Milda Gayrimenkul, owned by Engin Polat, and real estate and many vehicles were purchased, Istanbul Financial Crimes Department teams determined the identities of the suspects and carried out simultaneous operations at 43 addresses in Ankara, Yalova, Ordu, Kırklareli and Manisa, centered in Istanbul.
The teams, who continued their work within the scope of the investigation, determined that a medical company belonging to Dilan and Engin Polat gave the naming rights to another company in Ankara, and that 1 million 800 thousand liras in this company’s account was attempted to be transferred to the partners’ personal accounts.
Sixteen of the suspects, including Dilan Polat, Engin Polat and Sıla Doğu, were arrested. The judge ruled that trustees were appointed to 27 companies.
In its monthly detention review on June 14, the Criminal Court of Peace ruled that Dilan Polat’s siblings Can and Sinem Sıla Doğu, as well as Can Polat, Gökay Bekar, Halit Polat, Harun Abak, Metin Yılmaz, Mustafa Özalp, Nilgün Yılmaz, Uğurcan Ayyıldız and Zekai Tepe be released under judicial control provisions, while deciding to continue the detention of the other 5 suspects.
