According to the Dawn newspaper, the Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI), led by Imran Khan, held a large rally in the capital Islamabad. The main theme of the rally was the demand for the “immediate release” of the former prime minister. PTI officials hit out at their supporters, accusing the government of “marginalizing” their party.

PTI General Secretary Hammad AzharIn his speech at the rally, he stated that the reason they are here today is “to establish the supremacy of law and the constitution.” Azhar emphasized their determination by saying, “No obstacle will deter us. With God’s permission, we will ensure the release of Imran Khan.”

Later in the rally, there was tension between PTI supporters and the police. According to images shared on social media, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Police officials announced that they intervened on the grounds that the time set for the rally had been exceeded. This caused a fight in the crowd and the use of tear gas.

Azhar responded to the social media platform regarding the events at the rally. XIn his post on, he described the police intervention as “stupid”. “This will further increase political tension in a situation where people are already angry against the 47th Government,” he said.

Former President of Pakistan Arif AlviHe described the police intervention as “a shameful, cruel, cowardly and senseless act”. He emphasized that such interventions amount to a violation of democratic rights.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah TararIn his statement to the press, he stated that PTI was making “propaganda” by sharing “fake videos” on social media. Tarar said that the people of Pakistan “rejected” PTI’s rally and emphasized that the rally should be held only within the time allowed by the regional administration.

It is known that a lawsuit was previously filed against former Prime Minister Imran Khan on charges such as “revealing state secrets” and “illegal marriage”. Han has been held in prison since August 5, 2023 due to various cases.
