The Chief of the British General Staff, Admiral Tony Radakin, made important statements at the “Land War” conference organized by the Royal Armed Forces Institute of the United Kingdom. Radakin opposed the discussions on the introduction of compulsive military service.
Radakin said the UK was facing near-term financial challenges. “We are struggling with historic underinvestment. There are shortages of personnel, equipment, stock, training and technology. We need the humility to accept that we are not as strong as we need to be, and then the determination and focus to fix that. “
Stating that Russia is the leader among the enemies of the Western world, Radakin emphasized that NATO has a huge advantage over Russia. He suggested that the losses suffered by Russia due to the Ukraine war could be compensated for over a long period of time.
- “I get angry when Britain and Russia are compared without accepting that we will fight together with our allies and partners against Russia or any other aggressor. NATO has a huge advantage over Russia,” Radakin said in response to comments comparing the Russian army to the British army
- Stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made nuclear threats in the face of NATO’s conventional military superiority, Radakin said that if this superiority continues, the possibility of a nuclear attack from Russia is low.
- Radakin drew attention to Article 5, which states that attacking one NATO member is equivalent to “attacking all of them”, and noted that Putin may not directly attack a NATO member and that threats may change. He stressed that the role of the military is to reassure the people and keep the resolve strong.
