Illegal Floors on Historical Buildings on Halaskargazi Street Draw Attention

In Halaskargazi Street, one of the areas of Şişli with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, floors and structures placed on historical buildings and claimed to be illegal are drawing attention. The structures, which have been complained about since the 2000s and some of which have been subject to demolition orders, continue to spoil the silhouette of the street.

Archaeologist Ömer Faruk Yavaşçay draws attention to the historical structures and the situation of illegal structures in the region, stating that there are more than 10 similar structures on Halaskargazi Street. Yavaşçay demands that these illegal structures be examined, demolition decisions be implemented, and the street be restored to its original state.

In a statement made in response to the complaints, Şişli Municipality stated that the demolition of illegal constructions was included in the tender and that the process was ongoing. However, detailed information has not yet been provided on how many buildings are in similar conditions, the demolition schedule and possible administrative sanctions.
