The flood disaster that occurred in the Terme and Salıpazarı districts of Samsun due to heavy rainfall caused great damage in the region. As a result of the heavy rainfall that started at noon in the Terme district, the Kocaman River passing through the Bağsaray Neighborhood overflowed. At the same time, the Evci and Sakarlı rivers reached the point of overflow, with their flow rates increasing. This situation caused agricultural lands to be flooded and 8 heads of cattle to be swept away by the water.
DSI Samsun Regional Director Köksal Buğra Çelik stated that teams have started working to minimize the negative effects of excessive rainfall. Çelik stated that they warned citizens throughout the night and ensured that they took precautions against possible risks, and that AFAD, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, Terme Municipality, Terme District Governorship and gendarmerie teams worked in a coordinated manner.
Fatih Yazıcı, a farmer whose cattle were rescued, said that the heavy rainfall occurred suddenly and that his animals were affected by this situation. Similarly, Evci Neighborhood Headman Selahattin Gemrik emphasized that the floods occurred as a result of the blockage of the main bridges.
Workplaces and Streets Flooded in Salıpazarı
Heavy rains that started to affect Salıpazarı district at noon caused the Terme Stream, which passes through the district center, to overflow. While streets, avenues and workplaces are flooded, municipal teams and construction equipment are working in the flooded areas.
Authorities warn citizens to stay away from stream banks to avoid floods and inundations, and recommend taking necessary precautions for life safety when necessary.
