Ghebreyesus’ Warning on Evacuation Orders
Regarding the disruption of health services in Gaza, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made an important post on his Twitter account. Emphasizing that there is no safe place left in Gaza, Ghebreyesus pointed out that Israel’s new evacuation call could make it even more difficult for Palestinians living in the region to access health services.
Ghebreyesus warned that vital medical facilities for Palestinians could quickly become dysfunctional due to conflict or access barriers in their environments. Noting that some critical hospitals in Gaza have been rendered inoperable, Ghebreyesus said that following the new evacuation call, those who sought refuge in hospitals, medical personnel and patients have begun to leave, putting patients at risk.
Israel’s Evacuation Decisions and the Situation in Gaza
The Israeli army, which has launched a new ground offensive on the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City, has ordered forced evacuations in some neighborhoods in the north. Forced migration has unfortunately become a routine for Palestinians in Gaza, where approximately 2.3 million people live.
Since October 7, 2023, around 2 million Palestinians in Gaza have been forcibly displaced. Millions of Palestinians have been displaced multiple times due to the Israeli army’s attacks. This situation continues to have a serious impact on the lives of people in the region.
