Biden, 81, is facing pressure to withdraw his candidacy after his lackluster performance in a television interview with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump last month. Clooney recently called on Biden to withdraw his candidacy in a commentary to the New York Times.
Clooney said he likes Biden as a president, as a friend and trusts his character, adding that Biden has won many “battles” in the last four years, but “the only battle he cannot win is the battle against time.”
As calls from within his own party for Biden to withdraw his candidacy grew, Abigail Disney, the heiress of the Disney family, who is among the Democratic Party’s major donors, made the same call.
Clooney’s Statements
“It’s devastating to say this, but the Biden I saw at the fundraiser three weeks ago that the great Biden of 2010 was not. He wasn’t even the Biden of 2020. Was he tired? Yes. Was he coming down with a cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that what 51 million people saw on the TV debate wasn’t real.”
Clooney stated that Biden should withdraw his candidacy and said, “We cannot win the election in November with this president.”

In a statement released by Biden’s election campaign following Clooney’s call, it was stated that Clooney left the fundraiser quickly. The official emphasized that the event was an event that took place due to Biden’s busy schedule.
Calls from Within the Democratic Party
Following the June 27 televised debate, many Democratic members of Congress called on Biden to withdraw his candidacy. Colorado state Senator Michael Bennet said Trump would win the election in a landslide, while Vermont Senator Peter Welch and Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal also called on Biden to withdraw his candidacy.
Biden’s campaign team, on the other hand, reiterates that the president will take the race to the end.
