Far-Right Minister Reacts to Ceasefire in Israel
Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, in a post on his social media account, said, “There will be no ceasefire, female candidate,” without naming her. Ben-Gvir’s statement shows that he is harshly criticizing the prisoner swap talks between Hamas and Israel.
Smotrich Responds to Harris’ Call
Another far-right Israeli politician, Bezalel Smotrich, stated on his social media account that he opposed US Vice President Kamala Harris’ call for a ceasefire. Smotrich claimed that Harris’ proposed prisoner swap actually included surrendering to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and abandoning Israeli prisoners, and described this situation as “falling into a trap.”
Harris’s Armistice and Prisoner Exchange Proposal
Kamala Harris, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, expressed serious concerns about the urgent humanitarian situation in Gaza. Harris said in a statement after the meeting, “Let’s make this deal and end the war with a ceasefire,” and she suggested a prisoner swap. However, far-right Israeli officials reacted strongly to this proposal and expressed their reservations about the ceasefire.
