According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Turkish automobile and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 3.7% in the first half of the year, reaching 577,981 units. During this period, automobile sales increased by 7.3%, while light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 8.7%.
Details in Car Sales
Gasoline cars ranked first with 305,550 units, while hybrid cars ranked second with 64,921 units. Diesel car sales were recorded as 50,064, LPG car sales as 3,015. Sales of fully electric cars, which run on electricity only, were 35,636.
While there was a notable upward trend in hybrid car sales, diesel car sales decreased by 30.9% and LPG car sales decreased by 38.4%. The market share of electric cars has increased and started to close the gap with diesel cars.
June Data
A total of 8,032 fully electric cars were sold in June. The market share of these cars was recorded as 9.14%. While the market share of gasoline vehicles decreased to 66%, the share of electric vehicles increased to 7.7%.
The Future of Electric Vehicles
It is seen that the share of electric vehicles in the automotive sector is increasing. With the decrease in diesel vehicle production and the diversification of electric vehicles, a change is observed in consumer preferences. Therefore, it is expected that the importance of electric vehicles in the automotive market will continue to increase.
