Epidemic diseases are spreading rapidly due to the population density in shelters and schools where Palestinians who have been displaced many times as a result of the war are staying, the wastewater and garbage piles accumulating in the streets due to the destruction of infrastructure, and the difficulties in accessing clean drinking water, cleaning materials and medicine.
Contagious skin diseases such as scabies and chickenpox are observed in many people, especially children.
Children With Skin Diseases Are Being Treated
At Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, east of the northern city of Gaza, children with skin diseases are treated with limited resources.
Dirty water, poor living conditions, overcrowded schools and lack of cleaning materials are all factors that contribute to children contracting skin diseases.
It is stated that children do not receive adequate nutrition and cannot access the necessary medicines for treatment.
Pollution and Skin Problems in Accommodation Centers
According to the information provided by doctors, skin problems are becoming more common due to the population density and pollution in the places of migration.
In order to prevent skin diseases, clean water and medicine must be provided, wastewater must be purified, garbage must be collected and healthy food must be provided to the shelters.
Families Live in Difficult Conditions in Schools
Families taking refugee in a school in the New Beit Lahiya area from Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza are suffering from skin diseases caused by wastewater.
It is stated that families live in dense crowds in schools and basic needs cannot be met.
Skin Diseases Are Increasing in Immigrant Families
It has also been observed that skin diseases have increased in families who migrated to Deir al-Balah in the central part of Gaza with their siblings’ children.
It is stated that factors such as wastewater, lack of hygiene, pests and hot weather cause skin diseases in children and women.
It is emphasized that there are difficulties in finding medicine for treatment and the difficulties experienced due to the closed border gates.
