The efforts paid off as the party made significant gains, winning 71 seats in Parliament, marking their best showing in a century. This victory restored the party’s status as the third-largest party in Parliament, a remarkable feat considering their diminished presence in the 2015 election with only eight seats.
In a statement following the election, the 58-year-old Mr. Davey attributed the party’s success to a “positive campaign with health and care at its heart.” He expressed gratitude to the millions of supporters who backed the Lib Dems, aiming to both oust the Conservatives from power and bring about the necessary change for the country.
