Hundreds of people attended the demonstrations held in the capital Amman, as well as in the cities of Irbid, Ajlun and Zarqa. The demonstrations included funeral prayers in absentia for Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh, and an emphasis on support for Palestine. Participants came together to keep Haniyeh’s memory alive and to support the Palestinian people’s just struggle.
Among the slogans frequently heard at the demonstrations:
- “We pledge allegiance to you, we pledge allegiance to you… Oh Haniye, we care about you”
- “Oh martyr, rest, rest… We continue the struggle”
- “They said Gaza will kneel… Shame on the traitors”
- “My entire country is with Hamas”
The body of Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran, Iran, on July 31, was buried in the cemetery in the city of Lusail, 15 kilometers north of Doha, after a funeral ceremony held at the Imam Mohammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This ceremony was of great importance in terms of commemorating Haniyeh’s lifelong struggle and contributions to the Palestinian cause.
