Spanish football star Dani Olmo is set to make a superstar return to his former team Barcelona. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco flew to Germany on Monday night to hold talks with RB Leipzig over Olmo’s transfer.

According to a report by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs on a transfer deal involving the Catalan giants paying 55 million euros (£46 million) upfront and an additional 7 million euros (£5 million) in bonuses.

Olmo is set to sign a six-year contract until 2030. The 26-year-old is returning to Camp Nou after a 10-year absence. Olmo graduated from Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia in 2014 but has never had the chance to play for the club’s first team.

Olmo, who was first transferred to Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb team, then joined Germany’s RB Leipzig club in 2020. Despite suffering from various injuries throughout the 2023-24 season, Olmo showed a remarkable performance with 13 goals in 25 matches.

Olmo has been a standout performer at Euro 2024, scoring in three consecutive qualifying matches, including Spain’s semi-final win over France, and has been instrumental in his side’s title-winning campaign. He is now expected to quickly complete the necessary formalities to join Hansi Flick’s squad and make his debut in the season opener against Valencia on August 17.
