The circumcision ceremony held in the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden was attended by Kahramanmaraş Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer, Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu, members of parliament, Elbistan Mayor Erkan Gürbüz, former Minister of Health Recep Akdağ, former Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız, institution managers, representatives of political parties and civil society organizations and many citizens.
‘We Wanted Our Children to Have Fun’
The circumcision ceremony, where Mahir Ünal and his wife Şule Özdin Ünal welcomed the guests, was opened with a recitation from the Quran. Following the performance by the Mehter band, Mahir Ünal thanked the guests and said, “The February 6 earthquakes deeply shook 11 of our provinces and of course Turkey as the disaster of the century. Today, we wanted to have fun and draw attention to the earthquake zone with a mass circumcision ceremony for 300 of our children, including our son. On the other hand, we made a serious call for support for AFAD’s earthquake aid accounts, and this was also answered. I offer my love and affection to all our guests and all the children who came here today.”
President Erdogan Connected by Phone
Mahir Ünal then called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the phone. When Ünal turned off the phone, Erdoğan conveyed his love to the children. President Erdoğan said, “Dear children of Kahramanmaraş, our families. Today, at the circumcision ceremony of approximately 300 of our children, I greet you with my most heartfelt feelings and kiss your eyes. I pray to God that the circumcision ceremony will be a blessing for all families and I am deeply, emotionally and excited at this point that such a beautiful ceremony has been performed as a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet. On this occasion, while kissing the eyes of our children, I am also deeply and emotionally happy “On behalf of myself and my nation that such a Sunnah has been fulfilled, I kiss your eyes with my most heartfelt feelings.”
At the circumcision festival, which saw intense participation, children had fun with the activities organized in the playgrounds prepared for them.
