The Qassam Brigades stated in a statement that different explosives were used in various attacks carried out against Israeli soldiers in the Khan Younis region of Gaza and that there were deaths and injuries as a result of these actions. The statement emphasized that Israeli soldiers in the Hamed region, west of al-Hawuz, were particularly targeted.

It was also reported that a group of 10 Israeli soldiers were hit by an anti-personnel rocket in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City. Such actions increase tensions in the region, and the fact that civilians are also affected is a worrying situation.

Israeli Army Spokesman Avichay Adraee published a new map on his social media account on August 16, calling for the evacuation of the areas east of Deir al-Balah, as well as the areas of al-Karara, al-Mawasi, Jala, Hamad and Nasr in Khan Younis. The map shared by Adraee was notable for showing the areas Israel declared as “safe zones.” The fact that some parts of Mawasi, where more than 1 million displaced Palestinians had taken refugee, were also included on the map made the situation even more complicated.

On August 16, Israeli warplanes targeted civilian residential areas in the Hamed neighborhood, destroying some residences. The neighborhood is named after the former Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and is a residential area with 2,500 apartments. It was built in 2012 with a $407 million grant from Doha as part of the Gaza reconstruction program. Such attacks further complicate the humanitarian situation in the region and lead to civilian casualties.
