Algerian President Tebboune’s Election Efforts and His Position on Palestine
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced that he is running again in the presidential elections to be held on September 7. In this context, he met with his supporters at an event held in the historic city of Constantine in the north-east of the country. Tebboune made an impressive speech here, His determination for the Palestinian cause and especially what is happening in the Gaza Stripemphasized once again.
Tebbun said, “We will never give up on the Palestinian cause and especially the Gaza Strip. If the border between Egypt and Gaza is opened, we have things to do. Our army is fully prepared for this. “We will build 3 hospitals within 20 days from the moment the border (Rafah Gate) is opened.” Drawing attention to the genocide and destruction carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip, Tebbun said, “We will send hundreds of doctors. “We will rebuild everything that was destroyed by the Zionists (Israel).”
Tebbun emphasized that the Palestinian issue is not only a Palestinian cause, but Algerians also have a big share in this cause. “Palestine and Algeria may be geographically distant from each other, but we are always close in heart. “Despite being under colonial rule during the Nakba period (1948), we fought against the Zionists and gave our martyrs for this cause,” he said.
President Tebboune emphasized that the conflict Israel is waging in the Gaza Strip is not a civilized war and that it is committing a terrible massacre, and said, “They aim to destroy the Palestinian cause by destroying the Palestinians. However, we will never accept this.”
On August 1, the Algerian Constitutional Court announced that the candidacies of independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebbun, as well as Yusuf Usish from the Socialist Forces Movement (FFS) and Abdulaali Hassani Sharif from the Peace Society Movement (MSP) for the elections to be held on September 7 had been finalized.
