According to the news by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese attended a conference held at the Sydney Town Hall. While Albanese was giving a speech, protesters carrying Palestinian flags gathered in front of the building and chanted “Albanese, there is blood on your hands!” and “Free Palestine!”
Palestinian supporters have called on the government to condemn and impose sanctions on Israel over its attacks on Gaza. “Every action we have seen from the Albanese government over the last nine months has shown us one thing: they are absolutely complicit in genocide and have chosen to marginalize Palestinian society,” said Jana Fayyad of the Palestine Action Group.
Fayyad said the Australian government imposed sanctions on other countries during times of war, but did not display the same attitude towards Israel.
